Shepherd's Pie

Did you know?

While often confused, a 'Shepherd's Pie' traditionally uses lamb, whereas a 'Cottage Pie' uses minced beef. Both are hearty 18th-century classics.

Ingredients

Servings:

Method

Brown minced lamb in a large pan, then drain any excess fat.

Add chopped onion and diced carrots, cook until softened.

Stir in peas, beef stock, and tomato paste; simmer for 15 minutes.

Transfer the meat filling to a baking dish.

Top evenly with mashed potatoes, creating peaks with a fork.

Bake at 200°C (390°F) for 25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
